Dr. Burnett completed her Bachelor of Science and her medical degree at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. She went on to finish a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Alberta, where she held the role of chief resident in her final year.
Dr. Burnett is currently a comprehensive ophthalmologist and an assistant clinical professor with the University of Alberta’s Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. She has a diverse practice with busy clinics, seeing both medical and surgical ophthalmology patients. She specializes in routine cases as well as complex cataract surgery.
Moreover, Dr. Burnett is a passionate clinical instructor in her field who has taught and mentored many residents and students. She is an appointed member of the Residency Training Committee at the University of Alberta and is also the Surgical Simulation Director for the Department of Ophthalmic Surgical Simulation Centre (OSSC).
Dr. Burnett previously worked as an associate ophthalmologist in El Salvador with ORBIS, an international organization dedicated to improving eye care and fighting preventable blindness.
Dr. Burnett enjoys sharing her knowledge of ophthalmology by presenting at interprofessional health care forums and conferences. She has been published in various journals, such as the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, and has presented her work at numerous international conferences, including annual meetings for the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
