Educational Background
Dr. Qiao graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in Health and Society, from the University of British Columbia (UBC). She then went on to earn her Doctor of Medicine and complete her ophthalmology residency, also at UBC.
Dr. Qiao specializes in a broad range of ophthalmology disciplines, including general ophthalmology, refractive lens exchange (RLE), cataract treatment, and oculoplastic surgery. Currently, she serves as a staff ophthalmologist at Providence Health Care, where she teaches comprehensive ophthalmology and cataract surgery. Previously, Dr. Qiao worked as a staff ophthalmologist at Vancouver Coastal Health.
Alongside her clinical work, she has extensive experience teaching medical students and residents and holds a position as a clinical instructor at the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Medicine.
Dr. Qiao has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards throughout her career. She received the Resident Research Award from the University of British Columbia’s Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences. As an undergraduate, she earned the Top Undergraduate Honours Thesis award and was a recipient of the William and Nona Heaslip Full-Ride Scholarship. Additionally, Dr. Qiao was awarded the UBC Trek Excellence Scholarship for her outstanding academic achievements.
Dr. Qiao has also contributed her medical expertise internationally. During a volunteer trip to rural Northern Vietnam, she helped provide essential medications, eyeglasses, emergency dental care, and access to sight-saving surgeries through local fundraising efforts.
Her work has been showcased at various professional conferences, including the Canadian Ophthalmological Society Annual Meeting, and she has been published in respected academic journals such as Cornea and the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology.
