Dr. Irshad finished a double major in undergraduate studies at Washington University before completing his Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center. He went on to undergo his residency and fellowship training at Tulane Medical Center.
Dr. Irshad specializes in LASIK eye surgery, laser cataract and lens exchange surgery, refractive lens exchange (RLE), implantable collamer lens (ICL) surgery, ocular neoplasia and surface reconstruction, iris repair, and treating corneal ulcers/scarring. He’s also highly skilled at microinvasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), including iStent, Goniotomy, Hydrus, and Xen Gel Stent. Moreover, Dr. Irshad has experience treating corneal and glaucoma pathology in both adults and children and performs the latest breakthroughs in corneal transplants, including the partial thickness corneal transplant procedure.
Before transitioning to private practice, Dr. Irshad spent several years teaching surgery and supervising residents in full time academics. He continues to act as an Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Tulane Medical Center as well as affiliate faculty at Dell Medical School. He also currently serves on the medical advisory board at Southern Eye Bank and on the Medical Executive Committee at the Medical Park Tower ambulatory surgery center.
Dr. Irshad has consecutively been named a Top Doctor in Ophthalmology, as featured in Austin Monthly. His research has been published in a variety of peer-reviewed journals, including a cover story on “The Economics of Laser Cataract Surgery” for the February 2019 edition of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today. He also published a chapter on microinvasive glaucoma surgery in Chandler and Grant’s Glaucoma textbook in 2021.
As a former Eagle Scout, Dr. Irshad has a strong passion for community service. He volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and has offered his expertise on medical mission trips to Mexico with the World Cataract Foundation, where he performed vision and glaucoma screenings within underserved communities.
