Educational Background
Dr. Virginie Leblanc-Simard earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in criminology at the University of Montreal before attending Laval University in Quebec City, where she received her medical degree and completed a residency in ophthalmology.
She finished not only two fellowships in intraocular injections to treat medical-retina cases but also advanced trainings abroad at the White Memorial Hospital of Los Angeles, the Colby College of Waterville, and the Wills Eye Hospital of Philadelphia.
As a comprehensive ophthalmologist, Dr. Leblanc-Simard has an extensive knowledge of clinical ophthalmology and intraocular surgery. She is highly experienced with both external and internal eye conditions. While she specializes in cataract treatments and retinal pathology, Dr. Leblanc-Simard also performs oculoplastic procedures, strabismus surgeries, and laser procedures to treat glaucoma-related conditions.
Since 2007, Dr. Leblanc-Simard has worked as an ophthalmologist for the Hôtel-Dieu de Lévis, a hospital that’s part of the Alphonse-Desjardins Health and Social Services Centre (CISSS), where she used to be the head of the ophthalmology department.
She was previously a lecturer in pediatric ophthalmology at Laval University, and currently teaches to family medicine externs and residents.
Dr. Leblanc-Simard is greatly involved in the medical field and has shared her knowledge on many occasions through conferences and ongoing education trainings for various health professionals including general physicians, pediatricians, optometrists, emergency doctors, nurses, and ophthalmologists.
