Educational Background
Dr. El-Saheb completed his medical degree as well as a residency in ophthalmology at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. He went on to finish a clinical fellowship in glaucoma at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, which is the #1 eye institute in the United States.
Dr. El-Saheb later completed a second fellowship in novel glaucoma surgical devices and complex anterior segment Surgery with Dr. Ike Ahmed at the University of Toronto. He then went on to earn a master’s degree in public health at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, with an interest in clinical trials and health leadership.
Dr. El-Saheb specializes in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of glaucoma. His other specialties include complex anterior segment surgery and cataract surgery.
He is currently an associate professor of ophthalmology and the director of the glaucoma fellowship at McGill University. Dr. El-Saheb is also the Chair of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Council and a member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Ophthalmological Society and Canadian Glaucoma Society. Additionally, he is the Secretary and Treasurer as well as the incoming President of the Canadian Glaucoma Society.
Throughout his residency, Dr. El-Saheb won multiple awards for academic excellence and his research presentations. He was selected by his peers to receive the McGill Residency Leadership Award. Additionally, he has received multiple awards for teaching at both McGill University and the University of Toronto.
Moreover, Dr. El-Saheb served on the Board of Directors for the McGill University Health Centre and continues to contribute to McGill University through teaching and administrative responsibilities.
As an accomplished researcher, Dr. El-Saheb has published a variety of peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and has also spoken at multiple national and international meetings. He currently co-hosts the EyeCan Podcast and is an editor for the journal Canadian Eyecare Today. Dr. El-Saheb is passionate about glaucoma and cataract surgery, glaucoma innovation, and peer and learner education.
