Dr. Darrell Lewis first obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo, graduating with distinction. He then decided to enter the medical field and began a Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Ottawa. After obtaining that degree, Dr. Lewis then finished his ophthalmology residency at Dalhousie University, and went on to complete a fellowship in corneal and external diseases at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
Dr. Lewis currently sees patients at LASIK MD and specialises in LASIK and PRK procedures. He previously worked at iScreen in Ottawa, offering vision screening to kindergarten-aged children. Apart from his regular in-clinic duties, Dr. Lewis is an assistant professor of ophthalmology at Dalhousie University’s department of ophthalmology and visual sciences. He has also performed vision screening for Special Olympics athletes and has taken on the responsibilities of vision screening and outreach for Unite for Sight in Ghana.
Dr. Lewis has presented at numerous conferences around the world, including Spain, the west coast of the United States as well as several Canadian provinces. His work has appeared in publications such as Cornea, Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology and the University of Ottawa Journal of Medicine. While at Dalhousie, Dr. Lewis was the recipient of the Francis C. & Emily Yoh Tan Ophthalmology Resident Award and placed first in his department’s annual visual sciences surgical skills competition. He was also the recipient of the Father Lorenzo Danis Medical Scholarship and the Joelle Walker scholarship while at the University of Ottawa.
