A Post-LASIK Bucket List: Things To Do After Your Procedure

LASIK eye surgery works to make life easier by reducing or eliminating your dependency on glasses and contacts. It gives you the freedom to chase adventure and pursue your goals without having to consider how poor eyesight holds you back. Glasses and contact lenses only provide a temporary solution to vision problems. Though they may work fine in the moment, they not only burden the wearer with recurring costs, but they add additional steps to your daily routine. Even more, they can make it more difficult or even impossible to accomplish everything you want, thereby adding more stress and barriers to your life.

When you opt for LASIK eye surgery, however, many of the downsides of wearing contacts and glasses are resolved.

The procedure only lasts an average of 15 minutes while the recovery time usually takes no longer than 24 hours. This means you won’t have to wait long before you can enjoy life with improved vision.

Needless to say, by improving eyesight and reducing or eliminating dependency on glasses and contacts, LASIK eye surgery can offer you a new level of freedom that wasn’t possible pre-procedure. The only question is what you will do first with your newfound freedom! To help you plan your post-LASIK adventures, we’ve compiled a bucket list of activities you can fully enjoy after your LASIK eye surgery.

Ride a mechanical bull. If you wear glasses, then riding a mechanical bull may seem like a no-go. Either your glasses will fly off or you won’t be able to see what’s ahead of you. But with improved vision following your LASIK procedure, you’ll have the best chance at impressing everyone with your bull riding skills.

Try out snowshoeing. After your LASIK procedure, give your daily walk a new twist by trying your hand at snowshoeing. Not only is it a great full-body workout, but you’ll have beautiful winter scenery to enjoy. The best part is you won’t have to worry about your glasses fogging up and obstructing the view in front of you.

Go scuba diving. Did you know that you can’t scuba dive while wearing glasses? This is because glasses prevent the dive mask from properly sealing over your face. While it’s possible to scuba dive with contacts, there’s also a chance you may lose one, impeding your experience. Needless to say, this is one activity that’s made easier (and less stressful) after you’ve had LASIK eye surgery.

Take a camping trip off the grid. There’s no denying that glasses and contacts are an inconvenience when it comes to camping. It’s a struggle to successfully sanitize your contact lenses, while glasses are prone to breaking if you plan on hiking, swimming, or doing another outdoor activity. That’s why you should plan an epic camping trip following your LASIK procedure. However long you choose to go for, you won’t be bogged down worrying if your contacts and glasses will survive the trip.

Go sky diving. You may be surprised to learn that you can wear glasses or contacts while skydiving, as many centers provide goggles that are designed to accommodate both. However, many folks find it uncomfortable wearing goggles over top of their glasses, so you may be more relaxed completing this activity after you’ve had your LASIK eye surgery.

Treat yourself to a 3D movie. If you’ve tried watching a 3D movie with glasses, then you know the pain of trying to fit the 3D glasses over your frames. Not only does it look silly, but it’s uncomfortable and affects your ability to enjoy the movie. One of the first types of movies you see post-LASIK should therefore be a 3D movie!

Learn martial arts or self defense. Though you can train and warm up with glasses, sparring is never recommended while wearing a pair of frames. Your glasses will be prone to fogging up, sliding down, or even flying off your face. Contacts are a better option but there’s still a risk they could fall out if you take a blow to the face. The improved vision that LASIK offers means you can try out martial arts or self-defence without having to deal with the problems that glasses and contacts pose.

Take a hot air balloon ride. You need clear vision to take a hot air balloon ride – otherwise, how will you enjoy the view? Although glasses may work fine, there’s always the concern they could slide off your face and over the side of the balloon while you’re in the air. That’s why this is one activity you should wait to try until after you’ve had LASIK eye surgery so you can fully enjoy the view from up high.

Try out a new sport. Glasses can make it more difficult to play sports, as frames can easily fall off with sudden or quick movement. As such, many players must wear contact lenses or sport goggles, though these are prone to fogging up and reduce peripheral vision. However, following LASIK eye surgery, many players are able to participate in their sport of choice without requiring glasses or contacts, giving them one less thing to worry about.

Ride a rollercoaster. Many amusement park rides, especially rollercoasters, require folks to remove loose items before riding. Otherwise, it’s possible the item may fall off during the ride. This creates a problem for glasses wearers. While you can choose to leave them in a designated area, this risks theft, whereas shoving the frames in your pocket may injure or scratch them. Plus, without your glasses, you won’t be able to enjoy the view as well. Once you’ve had your LASIK procedure, however, you can enjoy the amusement park without needing to worry about your glasses.

Go skinny dipping at night. Skinny dipping gives you a rush of adrenaline, but that feeling will be short-lived once you realize your glasses got washed away. Even if you go in the water without your frames, your vision will be compromised, hindering your ability to enjoy yourself. But if you’re freed of your dependency on glasses or contacts, you can participate in skinny dipping without giving it a second thought.

Participate in a marathon or triathlon. If you’ve always wanted to compete in a marathon, triathlon, or a similar race, there’s never been a better chance than after LASIK! This is because it gets rid of the nuisance that glasses and contacts pose during these activities. Runners have to purchase special glasses to minimize the risk of their frames falling off. Similarly, with contacts, there’s always a chance they could become dislodged. But the improved vision that comes from LASIK means you’ll have one less thing to worry about, so you can focus all your energy on crossing the finish line.
